Nursing Leadership: Networking & Professional Development

Nurse Leaders: One Tip to Build Successful Nursing Teams #nursingfromwithinExecutive level nurses are looking for nursing staff who rise above the crowd. In fact, I would bet that most nursing leaders would like ALL of their staff to speak, act and behave with professional leadership qualities.

So as we navigate our nursing careers, I imagine that many of us want to rise to the challenge. Not only to satisfy the goals of our institutions and act as a role model of our nursing teams, but for our own professional development and personal satisfaction. I know I am always looking for opportunities to expand my leadership qualities.

Whether it be that I take a course that will teach me a new healing modality or I critique an article in a peer-reviewed journal that describes research in nursing administration- we all want to set ourselves above the rest. So how can we continue to grow as nursing leaders? What can we do to role model leadership traits each and every day in the workplace?

Here’s the second of a three part video series on nursing leadership. We’ll use my fun and easy CNO acronym as we go through the content. Today’s video features the ‘N’ in nursing leadership skills. Enjoy (and after watching, let me know your thoughts).

What about this step can you start working on today? What do you already do to build these components of nursing leadership in your nursing career? Let’s hear from you; leave a comment or question below. Thanks for watching!

Great video….I find social networking a great way to stay connected. As a nurse who is currently not working due to a serious medical issue, being involved in social media helped me to stay up to date and visible to my colleagues and leaders in the industry. I also agree being actively involved in your professional organization. I am active the Case Management Society of America. I have to say that my involvement paid me back in so many ways.

I also belong to Quota International a service organization focusing on the deaf and women and disadvantaged children. This organization has allowed me to give back to my community in fun and interesting ways.

Thanks for your video and I hope it inspires others to be involved and active in ways that fulfill them as professionals and active citizens.

    Elizabeth,

You are so good. Born to do this work!!! Love your videos.

I aspire to be a better servant leader. https://greenleaf.org/what-is-servant-leadership/

Interestingly, I didn’t know that was what I was doing until recently!

And back to your video….networking is key in all of our work. I also encourage nursing students to begin networking early (Student nurses associations, Sigma Theta Tau).
