Nurses, Take Care of the Whole Patient
As a nurse, one of the most frustrating aspects of working with patients can be when we feel as though they are not “getting it”. This next guest uncovers some of the reasons that patients have difficulty adhering to the treatment plan. And she reminds us that, as nurses, it is our duty to look at the whole picture. Sure, a patient may present with a specific symptom… But, if we take the time to really ask and dig deep, we may just help more than we ever imagined!
A few take aways from our interview with Lisa Boucher, Author of Raising the Bottom: Making Mindful Choices in a Drinking Culture include:
- How being stubborn can be an excellent professional habit;
- What manicures, pretty, shoes, and fun purses can do for your job enjoyment;
- And why being OK with patient non-adherence will actually make you a more happy nurse!
Nurse and author of “Raising the Bottom: Making Mindful Choices in a Drinking Culture,” Lisa Boucher realized after 24 years of working in ED’s and psych wards that substance abuse impacts everyone, and that doctors and our healthcare systems offer few solutions.
