Black Walnut Tincture
Black walnut tinctures are made from steeping the green hulls in liquid. The hulls contain juglone, which has been used as an anti-parasitic and anti-fungal agent. The tincture can be good for parasites, yeast, and fungus. In addition to expelling nasty bugs, the tincture can promote healthy digestion and gastrointenstinal health.

Getting these tinctures to the market is truly a labor of love, as nearly every step in the harvesting, hulling, and final preparation of black walnut tinctures is still done by hand.
The nuts fall from the trees in autumn, where they must be collected directly from the creekside banks.
The green, messy hulls are then removed, and steeped in liquid for weeks to months. Once ready, the hulls are strained off and the tinctures are packaged.

Get to Know Your Farmer

Hey there!
I’m Elizabeth Scala, and I live with my husband and two dogs along Deer Creek in Parkton, MD.
In addition to “walnut farmer,” I’m also a holistic nurse, certified coach, registered yoga instructor, reiki master, and qigong facilitator.
While I have several master’s degrees, I recently completed a Basic Horticulture Technician Certificate from the Community College of Baltimore County.
I’ve LOVED plants all my life! In high school I worked at a florist, the county park mowing fields, and an apple orchard. More recently, I’ve worked at a nursery and volunteered at a local organic vegetable farm.
We’ve grown numerous perennial gardens, and even relocated lots of plants as we’ve moved throughout Harford & Baltimore counties. I love herbs, flowers, and plant foods.
Of course, walnuts are one of my favorite snacks to eat!
