Dear Reiki Nurse,
I’m having such a difficult time lately. My mind races and I’m always upset. I can’t seem to focus; I feel frustrated, angry, and tense. I wonder if you have any advice for how I can let go of this anxiety and enjoy my life again. Please help!

Dear ‘Worried in Washington’,
Thank you for your note. I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing such struggle these days. I’d like to share with you the Reiki Principles as a way to offer some support. Please receive these words, concepts, and ideas as best you can. Allow your heart to open so that your mind can settle.
The Reiki Principles
Just for today…
I release all anger,
I release all worry,
I am grateful for all of life’s blessings.
I work with passion, purpose, and integrity.
I am kind and compassionate to myself and all living creatures.
Why do I share these words with you? I share them because they have allowed me to balance my giving with receiving. I write them so that you can open your heart, mind, and spirit and allow peace to enter your whole being.
Sometimes we experience tension, stress, and feelings of anger because we are wrapped up in our heads; forgetting our hearts. Or maybe we are living in the future worry or past frustration. Whatever the case may be, I encourage you to read these words. Look at them over and over again. What might they mean for you? How may they help?
Filling ourselves with gratitude, appreciation, and joy does wonders for our thoughts and feelings. Have you ever noticed that it is impossible to be grateful and angry at the same time? Try it. The next time your feelings of anger rush in and envelope you, and you have noticed it, stop in that moment. Turn your attention to something you are grateful for. List these aspects of gratitude over and over. Are you still mad? Has your feelings of irritation dissipated at all?
Our feelings are our clues. We can use these barometric blessings at every moment throughout our day. How do I feel right now? In this moment?
If your answer is something ‘negative’, like anger, worry, or fear- stop what you are doing. Those ‘negative’ feelings are cueing you into negative thoughts.
When you find yourself feeling bad, turn your attention to gratitude and appreciation. Think of what you are thankful for. “I’m thankful I am even alive. I am thankful I can walk. I am thankful I can work.” There is so much to be thankful for- everyone can find SOMEthing.. even in the moments of most despair.
I’ll say it again because it’s so worth hearing. You can’t be angry and grateful at the same time. Live day-to-day, moment-to-moment. Find yourself feeling bad- stop, shift, and give thanks. Uplift your feelings and move on sending positive vibrations into your world.
I hope this helps, kind spirit. Thank you for writing.
