Balanced or Not

…So in an effort to keep up with my discussion and previous topic of health balance defined I will answer the next question in this series: What is life like in balance verses out of balance?  How does it feel to live a life of balance versus a life of imbalance?…

…I am sure many of you reading this post right now are like, “Come on, this is so obvious.  We know how it feels to live in these ways.”  Well, this might be true, but let’s just review because it is my belief that many of us continue to live our lives out of balance either unable or unwilling to change things.  But why would someone do this?  Why would someone just live their life out of balance, not wanting or striving to balance it?  I believe that people get comfortable in the status quo.  They fear change.  They may think they are unable to change their life or that it will be too difficult and take too much effort to do so.  People get sort of “stuck” in their lives as they are, even if they are uncomfortable, and do not feel they can improve things.  So folks live their lives out of balance in this way for quite some time…

…Living out of balance or in a state of imbalance, so to speak, is not pleasant.  You might experience pain, fatigue, low energy, trouble sleeping, stress, burn out, etc.  You may be living in a rushed way; sort of similar to a rat-race experience or a hamster spinning a wheel.  You may do really well at your job or at your school, but your family life or relationships are a mess.  You could be focusing all of  your energy on one thing in your life; not giving a portioned amount of energy here or there.  Something is not being fed.  Some part of your life is not being nourished.  As I mentioned in the previous post, I believe that there are several aspects to our whole well-being, each which need to be paid attention to or else we are out of balance.  So we need to spend some time with our nutrition, pay attention to our movement, nourish our mental health, etc.  We should not be putting all of our focus into only one aspect of our lives.  When we do this we can become exhausted, burn out, and live a life of stress and unhappiness.  It does not feel good and it is not a comfortable place to be…

…On the other hand, living in a life of balance can feel joyous, peaceful, and relaxing.  We rest well at night and feel energized during the day.  We spend bits of time each week tending to all the aspects of our health.  We do well at our jobs, but are able to focus also on family and our own health.  We spend time alone, doing things we enjoy, rejuvenating ourselves.  We have fun and laugh.  We smile and are grateful for our blessings.  We live physically and mentally healthy.  Stress is low and peace of mind is high.  Living a life of balance we spend time paying attention to the many aspects of our lives that make up our whole well-being.  Relationships are healthy and our mental/emotional fitness levels are in shape.  We are aware of our emotions, express them properly, and do not find ourselves becoming easily angered or depressed.  We live in the present moment, doing one thing at a time, and being able to breathe.  The pace is much slower and more relaxed.  We love our lives…

…Now which side would you like to be on?  That of a life of healthy balance or that of a life of imbalance and chaos?  I am sure I can guess the answer that most people would give.  But the better question is what are you willing to do about it?  Do you want to change things?  Are you willing to try something new?  Can you face some of your fears and unknowns?  You will be happy if you do!  You will be glad if you attempt to tip the scales “in your favor” so to speak, bringing about healthy balance in your life.  What an exciting thought!  Let me know if you need help or have questions about this…

What sort of state are you living in?  Is your life in balance where you are paying attention to the various aspects of your whole well-being or do you need some work in this area?
