…So this week I have posted on celebration of goals, on healthy eating, on working with your passion, and support systems. So I think to myself; what can I write today that will be useful, energizing, and different from the other topics? And then I have an “Aha!” moment! My belief is that wellness is seven parts to a whole; support, spirituality, nutrition, mental fitness, movement, passionate meaningful career, and mindful presence. So I realize let’s talk about another one of these that is fun, exciting, and upbeat! Let’s talk about movement!…
…So I really believe that movement plays a role in our mental and emotional health. I myself can totally feel when I have not taken the time to work-out for days. I start to feel grumpy and moody. I do not have the smiles and inner warmth I have when I am exercising regularly. I really feel that movement impacts how we are feeling emotionally. Regular exercise makes us have better moods and makes us happier. It just is a simple fact…
…Another thing I think about healthy movement is it totally helps us to sleep more soundly through the night. I find that if we are not doing regular exercise work-outs during the day and sit for long hours at sedentary jobs then we really have not done anything for the entire time we are awake. And if that is the case why then would the body need rest and sleep at night? It didn’t do anything all day! So if you are sitting at a desk or in a classroom or in an office meeting for multiple hours of your day I bet if you get a healthy invigorating hour of exercise every day or so you will sleep a lot more soundly at night! At least I have…
…Exercise is also totally social. You can do things like dance classes, group exercise classes, or swimming lessons. You can meet new people and make more friends or business connections by taking some classes and getting out there with other like-minded people. Talking, laughing, and being silly in these classes is totally uplifting. Or even better; you might just get competitive with someone to see who can do more push-ups and then look at that! You totally worked out a lot harder than if you were to go it alone…
…So for me this week and last week I have really been focusing on my movement. With my wedding, honeymoon, workshop, and all that travel in between I was sort of out of my routine. I also have two dogs to get home to walk and a house to take care of. I am busy balancing job, school, and business. So my own movement can get lacking; if I let it. But I have to consciously choose each day to get some exercise in. It helps if I sit down on Sunday night and really look at my afternoons, meetings, and timing of things to see what is going to fit in where…
…Thus far this week I think I am doing quite good! Sunday I took some time away from cooking, cleaning, and business start-up work to go jogging for 3 miles. Then Monday, even though it was raining and I totally wanted to sit on the couch in front of Beverly Hills 90210, I went for a 4 mile jog. (I am running the Baltimore Half on 10/15 so there is some motivation to get out there!). Then yesterday I went and lifted weights with a friend at the gym. Today I play kickball. Tomorrow I am thinking about spinning or water class (depending on if I can Drew to go with me!), and Friday I was thinking about some more weights with a job on Saturday morning. Some of these may not get in, but if I can get at least 3 good work-outs in a week (and 4 would be ideal!) then I feel happy…
What are your work-out plans for the week? What have you done so far and what do you plan to do? How do you get your movement in each week!?

I try to have a basic workout plan every week. On average, I like to get some form of cardio in at least 5X a week, and strength training every other day. Last weekend was a bit wonky for me (I was out of town), and I had class last night, but I’m back in action today. Going to take myself for a run in the park to soak up this beautiful weather!!
Sounds perfect. A run outside today would be excellent! Enjoy. I know what you mean about going out of town and getting off track. The good thing is you have a plan to get back on when you get back home. Excellent sharing. Thank you!!
