Health is NOT Complicated

…As I mentioned on Tuesday, I had an extremely lovely and busy weekend in NYC with family.  And as I shared, when I travel I listen to my I-Pod for my nutrition course.  So the last post, Self-Care is Health Care, was from something I heard in my modules.  This next post is also from concepts I learned and listened to while driving back and forth from NY…

…This idea might seem radical to some people, but if you really think about it, reflect on it, and ponder it for some time… it is really not that extreme.  So here we go; here is a radical belief statement coming from Coach Scala:

…”Health is not complicated.”  Health is not complicated.  What the lecturer was talking about is the idea that being healthy is actually not that hard.  If you choose to be healthy and live a lifestyle of wellness then, for the most part, you can be healthy.  I understand and acknowledge that illness may come up, that some diseases are genetic, and that sickness will happen from time to time as our immunity defenses are lowered…

…But here is how I believe in the radical statement: “Health is not complicated.”  Stress can exacerbate the potentiality for illness.  Living in a body, living a lifestyle, and living in a rushed from here to there sort of way will increase your likelihood for getting sick.  Genetically, we are all predisposed to something… to one illness or another.  Yet we have a choice, on some level, to allow that disease path to come to fruition or not.  Living in a state of constant exhaustion where you do not tend to your own wellness needs; you are more likely to invite in illness.  Choosing to live a life full of healthy foods and drink, healthy rest and rejuvenation, healthy movement and activity; then you are decreasing your odds for inheriting your familial traits and increasing your odds of being and living healthy and whole!…

…Health is not complicated.  To me, being healthy is a choice.  We wake up each and every morning with a moment in time where we can choose wellness or we can choose unhealthy options.  Wow… just as I am writing this post I overheard a co-worker: “I am tired…”  “I didn’t get my lunch today…” Co-worker 2: “Why didn’t you have lunch?”  Co-worker 1: “Well, I had strawberry shortcake…”

…We can choose to take time out of our busy day to pay attention to ourselves.  We can choose to eat healthy.  We can choose to say “No.”  We can choose to take a break.  We can choose to love, accept, and acknoweldge ourselves.  We can choose to be healthy…

…Health is not complicated.  Here are some easy suggestions to stepping into your own life and your own health:

  • Start off your day with a specific intention.  Even before you get out of your bed, stretch, smile, and set your intention for your day.  Be grateful for all the blessing and gifts that are coming your way today.  “I am healthy in mind, body, emotion, and spirit today.”
  • Slow down and bless yourself as you shower.  Instead of rushing through your bathing process, thinking of your emails, “to-dos,” and appointments; wash your body with gratitude.  Thank each limb, each cell, each body part as you wash it.  Be grateful for the health you do possess.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat whole foods as you accept your body as a temple.  Respect and love your body.  It is the only one you have.  Honor it and treat it as if it was a holy place.  What you put in to your body becomes your body.  Treat it as the shrine you wish to embody.
  • Rest and REJUVENATE.  Take a break.  Sit down.  Breathe.  Smile.  Look at the beauty everywhere.  Feel the sunshine.  Smell the fresh cut grass.  Slow down and acknowledge the little things.  What are you constantly on the go for?  What are you running from?  Being needlessly busy might be a sign that something is coming up for you that you are refusing to address.
  • Say “No.”  Respect your own schedule.  Keep your calendar.  Follow your routine.  Live with your day.  It is great to be kind, giving, and caring… but once in awhile surprise others!  Shake it up and say “No.”  Take a bit of time that is just for you.  You deserve “me” time each and every single day.

…Today you have a choice.  It just might be the most important choice of your life.  Are you going to choose health and wellness?  Are you going to cherish you?  Or are you going to give in to temptation, overdo it again, settle back into bad habits, fall into old routines, or live unhealthy patterns?  Health is not complicated.  Be healthy… if at least, just for today!…

What comes up for you when you hear the phrase “Health is not complicated?”  Where have you observed this in your own life?  What is one healthy thing you will choose to do for you today?

Great post! I could not agree with you more. Too many people think that others are just blessed with healthy bodies, without acknowledging that good health depends on good choices. It sounds so simple, but it is so often ignored. Thank you for the inspiring work that you do. – Kristin letlifeinpractices
