Limiting Beliefs Around Money? Here’s a 4-Step Process that Will Help

I grew up in a beautiful neighborhood. We had a lovely four bedroom home with lots of outside space. My parents both had good jobs and made quite a bit of money. We never went hungry; we always had clothes on our backs; we didn’t have to struggle for money.

Limiting Beliefs Around Money? Here's a 4-Step Process that Will Help #nursingfromwithinHowever, and I’m not quite sure the reasons behind this, my parents never gave us ‘extra’. Maybe they didn’t want us to be spoiled brats. Or it was possible they wanted to teach us a strong work ethic. Unless I actually sat down and asked them one day- I’ll never know the reason. But unlike my friends, I always had to have a part-time job and I was never just given twenty bucks for gas money.

All grown up now, as a nurse entrepreneur I realize I used to holdĀ limiting beliefs around money. When you’re a nurse entrepreneur, working for yourself and hoping to make anĀ income, you get shown a lot of your ‘stuff’. Some of my money blocks used to include:

  • You have to work hard for money.
  • Money doesn’t grow on trees.
  • You can only make money through a pay check.
  • Having credit card debt is bad.
  • You need a large savings account, just in case.
  • If you’re rich you must be doing something illegal.

This past year I have done a LOT to clear these money mindsets. And what’s funny is having a part-time nurse salary- I still make a really decent income. I have come to realize that these limiting beliefs around money are about so much more than a number. In fact, I could have a nurse salary triple what I earn today- and if I didn’t do the work to clear my limiting beliefs- it wouldn’t mean a thing.

Today I want to share with you a four step process for how to relieve stress around money. In fact, this process can really be applied to how to deal with anxiety on any topic at all. Ready to be free from the stuff that’s holding you back? Let’s go…

  1. Limiting Beliefs Around Money? Here's a 4-Step Process that Will Help #nursingfromwithinThink about a time where you succeeded. A moment where you experienced a great accomplishment. For me, I go back to the eighth grade when total surprise to me, I was elected class president. I had actually nominated my best friend and in the very next moment another friend nominated me! How did you feel at the exact moment of success? What was it like for you to accomplish something so great? Jot these feelings down as we will need to use them later.
  2. Bring to mind the situation you’d like to accomplish now. Or think about what you’d like to achieve that just the thought of not achieving it may be creating some inner turmoil. Need an example? Let’s say you are a nurse entrepreneur and you are getting ready to offer a new group program. You’re worried that no one will sign up and it will be a complete failure. Well, I’d like to invite you to use some language around the idea that it just might be a success. Say to yourself, ‘Suppose this group course is a huge success…’ See what happens when you visualize this idea. Gently invite it in with the wording that ‘suppose’ your accomplishment could happen.
  3. Increase the likelihood that it will. Now it’s time to take it up a notch. Move to a new level of belief by saying to yourself, ‘It’s possible that this group course could be a success. It’s possible that more people than I ever expected sign up. It’s possible that people love the idea and tell their friends. It’s possible I replace my nurse through my efforts as a nurse entrepreneur.’ The words ‘it’s possible’ will strengthen the reality just a bit more.
  4. Envision and feel exactly what you want to have happen. In this final step, envision yourself in the success of the accomplishment. It’s as if it is already happening- and it’s happening right now. Remember the feelings you wrote down in step number one? See if you can invite these feelings into the present moment as you envision yourself fully bringing your desires to you. You’ve reached your goals. You’ve made it happen. Now how does it feel!?

I’d love to hear from you. Try this four step process to see if it eases up some of the tension inside. And share a comment below on how you deal with anxiety. Thanks for reading and enjoy the day.
