How many times in your life have you really, really wanted something to happen? Maybe you wanted that new car or you had your heart set on getting a new job. Possibly looking to make some more money or to get into a course that you’ve applied to over and over again. What happens when you really want something?
You yearn for it. You ache and pine. You find yourself bartering, wishing, almost begging for it to happen- right?
And what about when you set a goal or create an affirmation? You put it out there and then what usually happens? Nothing. HA!
You watch and you wait. You do what all of the coaches and gurus tell you. Maybe you even start to take action- small, baby steps to get you closer towards what you want. And then what? What if it STILL doesn’t come the way that you planned? What do you do next?
Keep trying harder. Take MORE actions. Figure “I must be doing something wrong. I’m not putting in enough effort. I have to DO more.”
Well, let me tell you a little secret. Less is more.
And how do I know this? Well I’ve received a valuable teaching tool, right in my own front yard. I’ve learned from my garden. It has spoken to me louder than any teacher I have ever learned from!
(Oh boy… she’s lost it! Her garden is ‘talking’ to her).
And really- talk it does. Every single time I get home- there it is. Every time I leave my house- there it is. Every time I look out my gorgeous bay windows in the living room- there it is.
Maybe this is why I strategically (unconsciously) placed my perennial garden right there in my front lawn, who knows.
My perennial garden is right there in my front lawn, right as you pull up the driveway. And every time I see it I am reminded of this lesson.
Our goals are aspirations are coming to us, in fact we already have them. In the words of William Arthur Ward: “If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.”
So let’s tie the garden, your goals/dreams, and achieving what you want in life altogether.
You want something. You want it bad. You set a goal for it or you create affirmations around it or you long for it all day long. You want something so you have a thought of it. Now instead of trying, wishing, doing, or hoping try this- try allowing, receiving, trusting and knowing.
You have the thought. Maybe you even write it down on paper. And then you let it go. You trust that once you have that thought it is already on its way to you. By releasing attachment from it you allow it to you, much easier than before. You attract it to you and it grows beautifully into what you want.
In my garden, I planted my perennials I moved with me up from the city. They were in pots and containers. They were small and pathetic, from being squished for way too long. I worried- will this garden grow? Will the plants get bigger? Will they thrive?
I now have a daily reminder, as they are bigger, fuller, and more beautiful than ever, that my garden can grow. And the garden has taught me that when you plant a seed, you let it grow. Nature will take its course and the seed will turn into a gorgeous plant.
I don’t have to go outside and sit with the plants and say: “Try to grow. Come on now.” I don’t have to go back to the soil and dig things up, looking for progress. I can trust and know that plants will bloom. I can allow beauty to manifest itself.
What have you been longing for? Can you plant the seed in the soil of your life and let it grow? How can you detach yourself from outcome and let nature run its course? Let’s hear a comment or reflection below!
