2015 Bring it On! Joining the Nurse Bloggers in a Challenge

by | Jan 5, 2015 | 0 comments

Elizabeth Scala, 20052015 is a very interesting year. Already.

Last week my husband and I both had the pleasure of being ill for the majority of the week. What a way to ‘ring in’ the New Year. I was down with a stomach virus and he was laid up with a fever of over 103. Trust me, as a psychiatric nurse looking at Google and reading how seriously life-threatening a fever that high can be… I was a bit nervous. Who would drive us to the doctor? We were both so sick that our dog Rusty was the healthiest one in the house!

Anyway, being on the couch (and in bed) for that long, allowed me to do some serious reflection. And you know what I realized on New Year’s Eve night? 2015, the year itself, brings some pretty big milestones for me.

Anniversaries

For me, 2015 is…

  • Twenty years since I graduated eighth grade and went on to High School (yes, I just dated myself)
  • Ten years since I became a nurse (I passed the NCLEX and got my first job at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2005)
  • Ten years since I moved to Maryland (I never thought I would live here that long… and then I met my husband!)
  • Five years since my uncle took his life (I cannot believe it has been that long… it seems like yesterday we got the call)
  • And many others…

Monumental Year

I belong to many nurse entrepreneur type groups online. In some of the Facebook groups I am a member of, the nurse bloggers have been speaking about 2015 being a monumental year for nurse blogging. That really excites me! And… I am going to join in the fun here on my own blog.

The Challenge

I have done this once before; it’s hard yet totally do-able. I am challenging myself to a daily blog. Yikes! In the past I did it for thirty days (I believe in the month of September, 2014). This time I am going to try to do daily… as long as I can do daily! Oh man. THAT is a serious challenge.

Healthy Routine

Well, I am on my way out to Yoga class. In fact, I pretty much have to leave like right now or else I will be showing up late. So here’s my final thought for this post (I do want to leave you with some content you can use yourself, as I do in all of my blog posts).

How do you keep up with a healthy routine? One that may become boring, tedious or even overwhelming (maybe like this daily blogging challenge I am placing upon myself)?

[Tweet “Here are my three tips to keeping that healthy routine sustained.”]

  1. Make sure you enjoy it. You get bored and guess what? It’s over.
  2. Make sure you change it up. Getting stuck in a rut is surefire way to welcome in procrastination.
  3. Make sure you feel the benefits of your hard work. No one wants to ‘work’ more than they have to. Be sure to celebrate all of your successes. Even the smallest of them.

Now let’s hear from you. What did I miss? What would you add to this list above? What healthy routine are you starting up this year? Leave a comment below and thanks for reading!
