Nursing Career: Individual or Collective?

When I hear the term ‘nursing career’ I often wonder what comes to mind for a professional nurse? Do she think about professional development, job enjoyment or nursing career alternatives? Maybe he views his nursing career as a personal journey which, to him, means advanced education in nursing. Is ‘nursing career’ a collective group of our nursing leaders or is it the individual path every nurse travels down?

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Boy, we sure did have our fill of rain this past week. Mother Nature is a continuously beautiful reminder of just how blessed we are. The April showers my area experienced, with heavy down pouring rain and flash floods, are blossoming into beautiful May flowers. Today is a gorgeously warm, dry and sunny day. We can relate the natural seasonal shifts in weather to our nursing careers.

Cleanse and Refresh

Many people grumble about rainfall. I heard it at work: “Boy the skies sure are gray. Will it ever stop raining? I can’t stand this weather.” I silently smiled to myself.

Rainfall is Mother Earth’s natural cleanse, a detoxification of what is no longer needed. Gentle rain hydrates and promotes growth. Harder rainfall clears and washes away.

We need the rain to thrive. Plants would not grow; crops would perish. Life would be completely unsustainable without the balance of sunlight and rainfall. Another Yin and Yang of life.

Personal Reflection: Nursing Career Success

Look at your own career as a professional nurse. What parts of your nursing career are in need of cleansing? Where can you refresh your nursing pride?

Are you set in your ways, finding yourself in a nursing rut of ‘this is how we have always done it here’? Or is your energy stagnant with how you view the nursing profession? Maybe you are feeling a bit of the Negative Nancy Nurse I once experienced, where everything about nursing is a drag.
