Ask; You Shall Receive

…I have been out of the writing in the blog habit for a bit.  I had a busy day Friday, a half marathon run Saturday, and a relaxing day Sunday.  But I am back.  As I was thinking about what to write today I realized I have not shared my new, fantastic news.  So I will post on that and share the lesson I have learned through the experience…

…So I have been wanting to do a couple of things with my business now and I keep talking about doing them, but never really start on any of them.  The list includes: holding a well-rounded workshop with a variety of topics/well-being modalities, creating a 7 week tele-series, and doing Interviews with Nursing Experts.  Well I have finally started on one of these!  And how exciting it has been…

…Instead of continuing to talk about it I decided to just go for it.  I am not sure what the outcome of the project will be.  I am not sure how I will get it out to people or even who will read it.  But I just wanted to get started on something.  So I started on the Interviews with the Experts.  Instead of taking time to call up people and interview folks over the phone or in person I decided that people would much rather answer a couple of interview questions via email.  I came up with the questions, based on what I wanted to share with the proposed readers.  I then researched some experts and by this I put a call out to my nursing groups on LinkedIn and to my networks on Facebook.  I was not sure if anyone would respond.  (This was one of my fears holding me back from even starting: what if no one wants to be interviewed)  The response has been phenomenal!  I have had so many interested and exciting people willing to be a part of my project.  I never dreamed of the amount of folks who would be willing to take the time to take part in something like this.  But people are excited and enthusiastic.  They want to help me.  They want to be a part of this!…

…So this leads me to my lesson for you today.  Ask and it shall be done.  Ask for what you want.  Do not be afraid of the response.  Do not worry about silly things that have not even happened.  Do not psyche yourself out of your amazing accomplishments.  Just ask and you will receive.  But you have to ask.  You have to put it out there.  If I kept sitting there with my three ideas for my business I would still be where I was last week; with three ideas.  But now that I have actually decided to put faith in my project, my idea, and myself I am moving forward.  I am getting responses from experts in the field of nursing and well-being.  I am getting back interviews from people with amazing stories and wonderful experiences.  I am so energized by this project and just impressed with the helpfulness, kindness, and generosity of others.  I cannot wait to see what the finished product entails!…

…Since I know I want this booklet to be a resource for nurses and an inspiration for them.  I know I want this booklet to be circulated out to all the nurses out there wherever they are at.  But the little details like how to get the booklet out there, who to get it to, and who will read it are not yet finalized.  I also am not sure what it will look like or how long it will be.  I really am not sure of many things.  But I just decided to go ahead and start my project.  I decided to ask for help.  And I realize that just by asking I will get things done…

When have you asked for something that you received?  Were you pleasantly surprised by the outcomes?  What is one example of you asking for something as a leap of faith that turned into a productive project for you?
