I am forever grateful for my nursing practice. Throughout my nursing career, I have had my own share of ups-and-downs. Days I left work sobbing to skipping with glee for the pride of my profession. The one thing that my nursing career certainly has afforded me with is freedom.
The time I have spent practicing nursing has been diverse. From psychiatric nursing to community well-being, from research to Reiki. I feel I have practiced the art and science of nursing within my career.
Today I share a snippet of a story that I am grateful to have experienced during my professional nursing career. Here goes…
***********
I got an email from a nurse manager one day. “I hear you are the nurse who practices Reiki. Can you come share Reiki with a patient? What’s the procedure with that?”
While I beamed a wide toothy grin as I read the email, I also felt a flash of worry.
What was the policy? There is none. Can I do this? I can practice Reiki, yet what does the medical team think of this? Questions raced through my mind.
We got everything squared away. The medical team agreed with the idea as the family requested it for the patient. The nursing staff would stay in the room with me while I shared Reiki with the patient and I would meet the family beforehand. All was well.
The patient’s family met with me and were thrilled that I could come. They shared that they all receive Reiki when at home from their community friend, yet that was miles and miles away. Their Reiki practitioner had been sending distance Reiki to the patient and family, yet they really wanted the in-person experience as well.
The nurses were with me the entire time in the room. The patient just slept. I stood and offered Reiki, not knowing what to expect. Just letting go and allowing the process.
The next day I received another email, again from the nurse manager.
“The patient is up and walking. He is being transferred to a lower level of care today. I am a believer! We all are!”
***********
This is the art of nursing practice. Knowing that what we are here for is to do best for the patient. To allow healing, comfort and care. This is the science of Reiki Practice. We may not always know what the heck we are doing with our logical minds, yet somehow the energy flows where it needs to go.
I am so grateful to for my nursing career and the opportunity to practice Reiki and nursing. I love what I do and am so glad I have the freedom to enjoy my professional role. For more information on Reiki Training for nurses, please visit my Reiki page by clicking here.
