I often get asked: “How DO you have the energy for everything you do?” After the initial smile, expression of gratitude, and brief conversation with the person asking the question- I often spend time in quiet reflection. Yes, how do I have energy for it all?
One way, one of my most uplifting ways, to impact my energy level is through music.
I love it. I love it all (well, most… I am actually NOT a fan of country music. And most rap I think is quite offensive, not all). But regardless- I like Jam Bands, Rock and Roll, DJ Beats, Classical, New Age, Holiday Tunes, Musicals… you name it I like it.
And better yet- if it has a beat, that I can dance too… oh boy do I LOVE it!
Here’s a short clip of my favorite band (moe.) hard at ‘work’:
Notice I said ‘work’. I love how in this video at any point in time, when they shoot close up on a band member (Al, Chuck, or Rob) you can see them in an outright ear-to-ear grin!
That’s how all of our work should feel! That’s what energizes us throughout the day!
So when people ask me, “How is it that you have the energy for all the things you do?” you know what the real answer is- “I love what I do.”
I love creating, teaching, inspiring, playing, consulting, motivating. I love writing and speaking. I love being on stage. I love leading a team. I love getting others energized. I love helping others feel how I feel. Oh, I just got energized just writing those sentences!
I encourage you- take a look at your own experience.
Do you love what you do? I mean really, really love it? If no- that’s OK. Exhale, don’t judge, and let that go. You can bring love and joy into the work, even if this isn’t your ideal job.
Can you find more fun in the tasks that you do? Can you put a unique and individualized ‘you’ spin on how you deliver certain things? Can you energize yourself by laughing, smiling, or being grateful for little things throughout your day?
I’d love to hear from you. Share you ideas, feedback, or questions below. What is it that energizes you? What energizes you at work, at home, and/or in play!?
Nice song. I love how they are getting into it with their dancing.
Thanks Kimberly! They sure are a lot of fun!!
