It’s All About Perspective: Shift Your Inner Reality to Impact Your External Environment

To follow up on my recent question of the ability to be ‘right’ and ‘happy’ at the same time, I venture to point out to you: it’s all about perspective.

  • A physician puts you down in the operating room, what can you do?
  • A colleague gives you an attitude, what’s your option?
  • A nurse you’re precepting rolls their eyes at your request, how do you react?

In every single situation you’re blessed with a gift:

You Have a Choice

As a reminder of this, I share with you this video. Yes, it is a commercial for headphones but that’s not the point. Just watch:

You’ve Got Options

The next time something happens at work that is disappointing, unsettling, frustrating, or aggravating just know that you DO have a choice. While we may not always have the luxury of donning our headset when things don’t go our way- this video is a great reminder that it’s all about perspective.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:

Your Thoughts Impact How You Feel

AND

Your Feelings Influence Your Behaviors & Actions

What Can You Do to Shift?

First off, realize that you are in control. You do have the power to change. So many of us feel worried and dis-empowered because of all of the things we can’t or don’t have control over. In this case- you’re in luck! You are in the driver’s seat.

Now that you’ve realized and embraced this it’s up to you. Make a decision. You can choose to change (which can be challenging, uncomfortable, and difficult). Or you can stay the same (miserable, stressed, and unhealthy). It’s up to you. Make a choice and if your choice is ‘change’ then commit to it.

Take the first step. In order to shift I recommend doing just one thing at a time. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself or shock the system into paralysis. To choose the perspective that you’re looking for (healthy & happy) you need to commit to one spiritual practice. Whether it is Reiki, meditation, affirmations, visualization, breath work, Yoga, movement, dance, or something else- you need to commit to a daily spiritual practice.

Change the Inside Experience to Shift Your External Environment

I’d love to hear from you! What shifts in perspective are you moving toward? How will you commit to getting there? What is one way you can change your inner reality to create the external environment of your choice? Leave a comment below! Talking it out can help…

Great article Elizabeth! You are absolutely right, mindset is the way into greatness and out of mediocrity. I also agree that it should be done one step at a time. I tend to take on too much and when overwhelmed, become paralyzed. This is a great reminder to focus on the positives at all times. That’s when the opportunities open themselves up to you!
