Nurse Blogger Award: Share the Love of Your Nursing Career!

by | Oct 2, 2015 | 5 comments

Love this idea. And many thanks to fellow nurse blogger, Greg Mercer, for the honored nomination. I am super grateful and so overjoyed to be included in this innovative and uplifting nursing group!

So here’s to passing along the nursing love and sharing the joy for my nursing career. And here are the rules:

Very Inspiring Blogger Award Rules:

1. Link back to the blogger who nominated you. (Done, linked to Greg Mercer of Big Red Carpet Nursing… thanks Greg for including me!)

2. Post the award image to your page.

3. Share 7 facts about yourself.  Here are mine:

Nurse Blogger Award #YourNextShift #nursingfromwithina) I was born in Carmel, NY. I went to the University of Delaware for undergraduate college. I moved to Maryland to work at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I guess you could say I am working my way south… LOL.

b) I broke my arm in back-to-back years. 5th grade I elicited an offensive charge in a basketball game (my defense rocked!). And in sixth grade, well, in sixth grade I went to open our ping-pong table. My dad had locked it for safety (which we never did) and I was unaware of this. It wouldn’t open to it fell on me, pinned me underneath it trapping me there for close to an hour, and I had to rush to the ER in a NY blizzard!

c) I have the cutest, silliest, and most playfully fun dog in the world. My pal Rusty is part pit, part who knows what. He’s a rescue from Baltimore animal shelter and it really is true that I’m not sure who rescued who!

d) My husband’s name is Drew and it’s a similar story. I tell him all of the time that finding him has made me a better woman. He says the same. Our wedding song was that Monica song, ‘Angel of Mine’. The reason being is that the lyrics speak LOUDLY to both of us: “How you changed my world you’ll never know
I’m different now, you helped me grow.”

e) I never wanted to be a nurse. I know, I know… you’re probably sick of hearing this. And I will add that due to my unique individuality and the desire to be myself, I have come to realize that becoming a nurse was meant to be. I wanted to be a life guard growing up. Get it, saving people? Well now even though I don’t nurse in the conventional way… I like to think I help people out in the way I was meant to. I am truly being my best expression of my nurse within!

f) Gee… this is hard/fun. Let’s see. OK, my favorite candy is Reese Pieces. And get this… I like to eat all of the chocolate first. On both cups (you know, when they come in a two-pack). Then, when that is done, I eat the peanut butter. Yum!!

g) My final one. What do I want to say here? Oh I love to travel. In fact, I have been to ten countries while on semester at sea in college; I went to Turkey to present a poster with my nurse manager in psychiatry (thanks, Hopkins for footing that bill!); I have been to Nicaragua, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico; and I have been to…. Hmm… this is hard… 26 states! But who’s counting. I need one of those maps where I can place push-pins to all of the places I have been. Because my travel is nowhere near complete yet…

4. Finally, nominate 15 other blogs and inform them about it

Boy this is going to be a FUN part… here we go (And these are in no particular order):

Now… share the love and pass it on. Who have you read above? What blogs can you recommend? Leave a comment below stating the nursing blogs you enjoy and feel free to share using the social media buttons. Enjoy these nurse bloggers and thanks for reading.

Nice post, Elizabeth, and thanks for the nomination! Too bad Rusty wasn’t there to save you from the ping pong table! : )

It’s harder than it seems to crank out those facts, yes? Especially hard when you offer more than one fact per listing 😉 Interesting material. thanks!
I fell into nursing intentionally, but only after trying our other plans. All my social cues were awy from nursing, or more accurately, towards other things: architecture (that one to keep me from becoming a contractor like my baseball coach in 4th grade), engineering (Dad’s gig, good at math: presto!). medicine (the obivous path if you want to leave engineering, right?)

    Eventually I figured it out…
