Reiki Nurse Coach: Nursing MY Way!

by | Sep 13, 2013 | 2 comments

Another post for the blogging carnival hosted by Scrubs Magazine. This is excellent news for you, the reader. You’ll be able to collaborate and connect with so many more nurses. When we gather in this way, as one collective unit, we are empowered and supported. Enjoy!

As I sit here creating power point slides and content material for my group call tonight, I feel blessed to be a nurse. “Wait power point slides and group calls? What type of nursing is this?”

Well, I’ll tell you: this type of nursing is MY type of nursing.

I want to cover two things in this blog post today:

  1. The beauty of nursing and its variety that gifts us with opportunities to do what we want; and
  2. The encouragement, tips, and gentle nudge to find out what type of nursing you love… and go do it!

I’m going to spend more time on point number two, as that is where I feel you’ll receive most benefit from this post. So here we go…

First I encourage you to look at your own relationship with what you experience as a nurse, your connection with your profession, role, and current work. Maybe you’re sure that you LOVE nursing, but are feeling you ‘like’, ‘tolerate’, or even (GULP) ‘dislike’ your job.

If this is you, let me just tell you because I can totally relate: I can totally help! In fact, this is part of what I do. I work with nurses who feel trapped in a nursing job and help them figure out their true purpose on this planet.

What I have found is that you have a couple of options: you can leave the profession, leave your current nursing job for a new one, or re-energize your current role. Whichever path you choose, the outcome is the same: reconnect with the passion of nursing that led you to this calling in the first place.

How you do this is quite simple. Here are easy tools I suggest you apply today:

  • Figure out what it is that you enjoy (not just at work, but in life). When you are engaged in the things that you love, in all parts of your life, you bring these gifts into your work. Doing more of what you find fun can then be applied to your work.
  • Make a list of what you’re good at. What makes you uniquely you? Each of us has this beautiful individual hidden treasure- I want you to find yours so you can bring it to your role.
  • Bring gratitude to your work. Even if you are in the category of ‘hating’ your work; look for what you can be thankful for. You have a job, right? Well, there’s one thing. When you appreciate life; you get more of the good stuff… even at work!

Ok, so why am I taking the time to tell you all of this? To show you: this is what I do. My work as a Reiki Nurse Coach has evolved over time, space, situation, and experience.

And nursing is so freaking cool in that way!

You can work in any type of nursing you want; you can even create your own! I’ve started calling myself Reiki Nurse and SO many people have reached out wanting to learn and hear more.

Instead of staying in a job that you tolerate (or hate) go ahead and start to investigate yourself, your passions, and your purpose. There are MANY, many other ways you can be ‘nursing’. I like to say I indirectly work with patients through my clients.

My clients are nurses and by helping them love their lives and their jobs… I get to help the patients they touch! So fun!!

So what’s next? Well, find some support, reach out to a professional, and ask around. Start to do your own research to figure out what type of nursing is perfect for you.

In fact, check out this October’s RejuveNation Collaboration. It’s a great place to network and build new relationships with nurses in different kinds of nursing roles! And on a more personal level, it’s a wonderful opportunity to take a step back, catch your breath, figure out your joy, and find the work that you love to do every single day of your life.

Perfectly stated! Thanks for the uplifting read before a long, three day weekend at work (that I love to dislike at times!) 😀
